Quetta Gladiators: 188/5 (19.1) | K Nafay 60*(31) | S Raza 1/25 (3)
Quetta Gladiators secured their second
successive victory after Lahore Qalandars faced back-to-back defeats.
Khawaja Nafay scored unbeaten 60 runs off 31 balls |
Opting to bat, Lahore Qalandars faced early
set back as Akeal Hosein removed Fakhar in the third over. Quetta bowlers
bowled well and restricted Qalandars to 43/1 in the powerplay. Despite this, they
managed to post 187/7, thanks to Farhan’s 62 off 43, and Jahandad khan’s
explosive unbeaten 45 off just 17 deliveries, supported by Sikandar Raza and
Shaheen.
In response, Quetta made a brisk start to
their chase, with Jason Roy and Suad Shakeel combining 69 runs. However, it was
the fielding that let Qalandars down. Fakhar Zaman dropped Roy in the first
over, and Zaman khan dropped a straightforward catch later, when Jahandad
trapped Roy. Despite this, Qalandars fought back with crucial breakthroughs,
including Zaman’s yorker to dismiss Saud, and Raza's cleverness to remove Roy. However,
due to overthrows and misfields, Qalandars failed to capitalize on these moments
and built sustained pressure on Gladiators. Captain of Quetta Rilee Rossouw was
departed after scoring 18 runs.
But it was unpredicted Khawaja Nafay who
stole the show for Quetta Gladiators, smashing every Qalandars bowler. He
scored an unbeaten 60 off 31, hitting three sixes and four boundaries. During
this, Sarfaraz Ahmed was also dropped on zero, and he went on to contribute 11
crucial runs to the Quetta’s chase. Khawaja Nafay’s match-winning boundary off
Zaman Khan sealed the victory for Gladiators with five balls to spare.
Valiant batting effort of Sahibzada Farhan,
and Jahandad Khan’s late heroics went in vain, as Khawaja’s brilliance created
the difference in the end.
