Multan Sultans: 214/4 (20) | Usman 96(55), Iftikhar 40*(18) | Shaheen 2/39, Raza 1/20

Lahore Qalandars: 154 (17) | Farhan 31(21), Van Der Dussen 30(22) | Mir 6/40, Faisal 2/25

Multan Sultans outclassed the defending champions to secure a comfortable 60-run win. They are leading the table with 10 points, winning five games out of six.

Usman Khan hit 96 runs off 55 balls

Electing to bat first, Multan Sultans set an impressive total of 214 runs, losing four wickets in the process. The oversea batter Usman Khan emerged as the architect of their innings, playing a knock of 96 runs before agonizingly short of a century in the last over. After the dismissal of Mohammad Rizwan in the first over, Reeza Hendricks and Usman Khan put together a 70-run stand. Hendricks contributed 40 runs off 27 balls, before falling to Sikandar Raza in the 9th over, leaving Sultans at 74/2 (8.3). The middle order continued the onslaught with Tayyab Tahir contributing 21 runs off 14 before departing on the last ball of the 15th over.

However, Iftikhar Ahmed picked up right where he left off last time when he smocked an unbeaten 34 off 11 against Lahore Qalandars in the 7th match of the ongoing PSL season. This time he hit an unbeaten 40 runs after facing a mere 18 deliveries, driving Multan to a big total.

In response, Lahore Qalandars faltered in their chase, yielding to pressure as they lost wickets at regular intervals. Despite a promising start from Fakhar Zaman and Sahibzada Farhan, who provided Qalandars with a solid 54-run opening in 5.3 overs. The dismissal of Farhan by Khushdil Shah in the eighth over put Lahore under pressure as they lost their inform batter. Faisal Akram’s impressive spell of 2/25, including the dismissal of dangerous Sikandar Raza who scored 17 off 7, pushed Multan Sultans on the driving seat. Rassie Van Der Dussen tried to anchor the innings, yet he lacked support from his batting partners.

Usama Mir wreaked havoc with sensational figure of 6/40 – the fourth best in PSL history. He became the only spinner to take six wickets in an inning in the history of Pakistan Super League. Lahore Qalandar’s middle order struggled to cope with mounting run rate, as wickets continued to tumble. Eventually, they were bowled out of 154 in 17 overs, remaining winless and shattering the dream of winning third title.

Usama Mir finished with his best figures of 6/40

Turning Point:

The chase was within the reach of Lahore Qalandars. Requiring 108 runs off 54 balls, Van Der Dussen and Sikandar Raza were on the crease, with Raza leading the charge with a display of aggressive 17 runs in 6 balls. However, his dismissal by Faisal Akram on the first ball of the 12th over dealt a significant blow, causing a collapse in Qalandars’ batting.
