Fastest T20I Centurion Missing! Namibia World Cup Squad Announced

Namibia's T20I world cup squad for sees some shocking changes.

Namibia has named its 16-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the West Indies and USA, with Gerhard Erasmus to lead.

However, the squad raised eyebrows with the surprising absence of Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton, who holds the record for the fastest T20I century (33 balls).

Loftie-Eaton recently captained Namibia at the African Games but was sent home before the semi-final for undisclosed reasons. This, coupled with his omission from the World Cup squad, suggests a potential disciplinary issue.

Another notable absentee is veteran allrounder Pikky Ya France, who featured in Namibia's 2021 T20I World Cup campaign.

Despite these exclusions, the squad boasts experience and firepower. David Wiese, the South Africa-born T20 globetrotter, and the potent left-arm quick Ruben Trumpelmann return for another World Cup tilt. Continuity is also evident with nine players from the 2021 squad making the cut.

Fresh faces include teenager Jack Brassell, a medium-pacer who impressed at the U-19 World Cup.

Namibia will be looking to make a mark in Group B, which features heavyweights like England and Australia.

Namibia Squad for T20I World Cup 2024:

Ben Shikongo, Bernard Scholtz, David Wiese, Dylan Leicher, Gerhard Erasmus (captain), Jack Brassell, Jan Frylinck, JJ Smit (vc), JP Kotze, Malan Kruger, Michael Van Lingen, Niko Davin, PD Blignaut, Ruben Trumpelmann, Tangeni Lungameni, Zane Green.
